Membership FAQs

Membership Contributions

How does my membership support HHV?

Membership fees are a vital component of necessary support for the maintenance and upkeep of our historic sites and the operation of our educational programs.

Is my membership tax-deductible?

Only the portion of your membership fee above the value of the benefits you receive will qualify as a charitable contribution; your receipt will contain the details. If you elect to forego the benefits of membership, your contribution will be 100% deductible.

Is my membership transferable?

Your membership covers you and the family members included in your package. In addition, all members can bring two guests to each site per year. If you have additional guests, please encourage them to buy tickets, or buy their own membership and save! We also offer gift memberships, if you would like to share the experiences of Historic Hudson Valley with someone else.

How long does my membership last?

Your membership is valid for one year from the date of purchase. All memberships expire on the last day of the month. You can renew your membership at any time and extend your expiration date. You may also upgrade your membership at any time to receive the additional benefits of higher membership tiers.

Membership Benefits

What historic sites can I visit with my membership?

Your membership entitles you to free historic tours at Washington Irving’s Sunnyside, Philipsburg Manor, and Union Church of Pocantico Hills. You will receive a discount on tours of Kykuit for the family members included in your package.

Why do members have to pay for Kykuit tours?

Kykuit and the Rockefeller Estate are owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and Historic Hudson Valley has an agreement to provide their educational tours. The rates are set by (and fees passed on to) the National Trust. Members are entitled to one tour for every person on the membership during the membership year.

What events are free for members?

Our weekend/daytime festivals are free for members. Nighttime festivals and ticketed events are free for members of our Henry Hudson Society and Pocantico Society. We will be happy to assist other members in purchasing discounted tickets to those events online or by phone. All memberships include a limited number of tickets to The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze: Hudson Valley; for more information, see the section on Member Tickets to the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze below.

Using Your Membership

How do I reserve member tickets or tours online?

Select “Tickets” or go to https://hudsonvalley.org/tickets/

Members must log in with your email address and password in order for the system to acknowledge your membership. Select “BUY TICKETS” on the site you wish to visit. Choose the date and time of the tour. Add to cart the correct number of member tickets allotted for each level (Individual: One member adult. Dual: Two Member Adult. Family: Two Member Adult and Two Member Child, etc.). If bringing a guest be sure to choose Member guest.  Proceed to check out.

You will receive two emails. The first confirm your order followed by an email containing your e-tickets. Tickets will be scanned on your smart phone. No need to print if you have a smart phone.

Make sure to remember the log in and password for future reservations!

Do I need to make tour reservations as a member?

Many of our events and popular tour times sell out quickly, so it is always a good idea to plan ahead and make reservations. You may, however, present your member ID on site for weekday historic tours or some of the smaller weekend/daytime festivals. If we have space available, you will be granted admission.

How do I get my Blaze tickets?

Individual, Dual, Senior, Family, and Family PLUS level memberships include free admission to The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze: Hudson Valley for the number of individuals on your membership. Reservations are required and can be made as soon as the members-only early reservation period begins, before Blaze ticket sales open to the public. Reserved tickets will be sent in the mail or via email. Please note that this event frequently sells out. To ensure an enjoyable experience we do not oversell tickets.

Can members buy additional Blaze tickets? Can I bring a guest?

Members are allowed to purchase additional tickets to Blaze. Member guest privileges do not extend to Blaze, so guests require tickets.

Can I change the date of my tickets / exchange them / get a refund?

All tickets are exchangeable into any open slot at any time prior to the time of the existing ticket entry. There are no fees for exchanges. However, because Blaze tickets sell out so rapidly, it may be challenging to exchange tickets, so we would advise you to please plan accordingly. To request an exchange or refund, you must call 914-366-6900.

It was raining / snowing / hailing and I couldn’t make it! Is there a rain date?

Historic Hudson Valley holds its events rain-or-shine, in hot weather and cold, despite wind, snow, or other inclement weather. If we are open, your tickets will be considered valid for that night and time only. We will not refund, exchange, or otherwise honor tickets for open dates and times that were not used.

I can’t get tickets to Blaze when I want them; as a member, what can I do?

The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze: Hudson Valley is an incredibly popular event (and we’re grateful for your enthusiasm!). Unfortunately, that means nearly every time slot on every night sells out. We’ve worked hard to provide as many available times and dates as we can, but we simply cannot satisfy every visitor’s preferences. The members’ early reservation period is your best bet to secure the date(s) you want.
