Dr. Leslie Harris
The Development of Slavery in the North: Tuesday, July 15
Dr. Leslie Harris is Professor of History and Black Studies at Northwestern University. A specialist in Pre-Civil War African American history, she has authored or co-edited five books. Harris has also participated in a number of public history projects. Harris is currently completing a book titled Leaving New Orleans: A Personal Urban History.
Dr. Christy Clark-Pujara
Slavery & Capitalism: Building Northern Societies: Wednesday, July 16
Dr. Christy Clark-Pujara is the Chair and a Professor of History in the Department of African American Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has authored various books, articles and works. Clark-Pujara has also been awarded several community awards and is the founder of CP Historical Concepts, which offers accessible history-based presentations providing key context for understanding and addressing racial disparities in the United States of America.
Deirdre Hollman
Strategies for Teaching Northern Slavery: Thursday, July 17
Deirdre Hollman is the founder of the Black Comics Collective, a live events and digital forum for connecting comic creators of color with the youth and communities in NYC. She has a B.A. in art history from Princeton University, a M.S.Ed. in museum education from Bank Street College, an Ed.M. and M.Phil in social studies from Teachers College, Columbia University. She served as Director of Education at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture for fifteen years, where she created innovative programs such as the Junior Scholars Program and the Black Comic Book Festival.
